Description: |
Cellists! We all know those fiddle tunes from Ireland and Scotland. Don't they look like a lot of fun to play? I think so. But, did anybody ever write fiddle tunes for celli? Of course not! They are fiddle tunes. This is the third entry in my Folk Suite which features Scottish folk tunes arranged for celli (the other pieces are Langor of Love, a more reflective work and Country Waltz to Quilt By, truly a country waltz). This is two a half minutes of bouncing, toe tapping tunes that are fast and mostly in a major key. This is a great piece for a group of cellists with a wide range of skills. For the advanced cellists, who can play parts 1 and 2, you will be playing around the upper half of the A-string. For intermediate cellists, there is the accompaniment, which still has its challenges. Listen to the recording.
By the way, in the middle, there's a little treat. A trio section with a new tune I composed. It's even more bouncy than the original music if I say so myself.
This is very rewarding music for playing and listening. We have played this in my cello choirs and we have to play it several times, each time faster and faster. |
